We got our hands on a camera only in 1979 at the S-Club and later the STEPS Club of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at SVŠT in Bratislava, more or less by chance. Back then, as KAF members (read: members of the amateur film club), we saw an 8 mm Quarz camera for the first time. They even lent it to us, and that’s how we were able to come into existence.
During our studies, our first short films — The Beggar, At the Dentist’s, and Slovak Story — saw the light of the projection lamp. The unexpected response, especially to At the Dentist’s, confused and surprised us so much that we didn’t fall apart even after graduation.
