About the International Thematic Competition Tatranský Kamzík

The International Thematic Competition “Tatranský Kamzík” is the largest thematic competition of non-professional films not only in Slovakia but also one of the largest in Central Europe. It has been held in the Liptov region of Slovakia since 1973. The first ten editions took place annually, but since 1982, it has been held biennially.

The competition primarily focuses on history, cultural and technical monuments, folklore, natural beauty, ecology, ethnography, traditional ways of life, and mountain tourism.

It is the only competition in Slovakia held under the patronage of UNICA (Union Internationale du Cinéma). UNICA is a global organization for non-professional film and a member of CICT – the International Council for Film, Television and Audiovisual Communication at UNESCO. (By the way, only 11 competitions from approximately 30 UNICA member countries hold UNICA patronage.)

The competition is traditionally announced by the town of Liptovský Hrádok, and it is currently organized by the association of amateur filmmakers Nicolausfilm from Liptovský Mikuláš and the Liptov Cultural Centre in Liptovský Mikuláš.
